Scope of application of desander and desilter

The desander is a secondary purification device in the drilling fluid treatment system used to separate solid particles larger than 47 microns from the drilling fluid. Installed in front of the desiderator, the function of the desiderator is to reduce the load downstream of the desiderator, and the desiderator can effectively remove a large number of particles in the desiderator load and improve the working efficiency of the desiderator. When drilling at high speeds, especially in shallow sections with loose soil, large diameter bits are often used, resulting in a large amount of cuttings. "Rope" discharge may occur at the port of the desilter, so a desilter needs to be installed upstream of the desilter to separate the coarse cuttings, which can provide greater volume capacity. The overflow on the desander can only be treated more effectively through the desander when the desander removes large cuttings from the high concentration fluid. If the drilling rate is slow, only half a ton of cuttings per hour can be produced at most, and the desander can usually handle all circulating drilling fluid, then the desander can be turned off.

Desilters are used to treat all non-drilling fluids, so it is necessary to use desilters for treatment. However, in viscous oil-based drilling fluids (deepwater drilling), there will be a large amount of adhesive oil phase in the bottom discharge, so do not treat the weighted drilling fluid with weighted water-based drilling fluids, as this will remove a large amount of barite. Use a desilter to separate all non-weighted items.

When the drilling fluid containing a large amount of barite is treated and separated, neither the desander nor the desilter (including microcyclone) can be used, and only other solid control equipment can be used for processing. Because sand and barite have roughly the same granularity. Most of the barite particles are 2~44μm, a few are 44~74μm, only 8%~15% are between 0~ 2 μm, the separation particle size of the desander is 25~30μm, and the separation particle size of the desander is 10~15μm, because many barite particles are above the separation particle size, so it will be discharged with fine and coarse particles.
